SAFACT – Tsotsi
WHAT IF THE PROCEEDS WENT TO ANTI-PIRACY?
This won a Gold at Cannes and Yellow Pencil at D&AD winner - first some context - In South Africa there's a vendor at every major traffic intersection ready to sell you anything, including poor copies of the latest movies. So we decided to sell our very own pirated version of the Oscar winning movie Tsotsi. However, just as our lead character gives the finger in our opening credits, we abruptly ended the movie and thanked them for their donation to fight piracy. This hit all local and national news channels, spreading fear that your next pirated DVD could in fact be this recriminating dud. Ironically, Tsotsi means thief.
